Why "GlassRoom?"

The term "glass room" harks back to the mainframe era, when all of a company’s computers were located in a central space, staffed by specialists, separated by a glass wall, not just for security and privacy, but also so visitors could marvel at the rows of machines with flashing lights. The first picture below shows a typical example, from the late 1950's:

Nowadays, the term refers to rooms that house supercomputers, mission-critical servers, and other important computer systems, which are often located in enormous data centers, staffed by specialists, separated by a glass wall, not just for security and privacy, but also so visitors can marvel at the rows of machines with flashing lights. The second picture above shows a recent example. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

The name "GlassRoom" seems fitting to us, because we work in the metaphorical glass room -- surrounded by powerful computers and cutting-edge software.
